Technologies Used

The Open Source ELN (OS-ELN) aims to be simple and approachable, yet powerful.

It is based on Open Source technologies, which removes any license concerns, as well as ensuring wide availability of the tools and skills required to use it.

OS-ELN is based on the Zope application server, which provides:

the basic web application server
a built-in object database
security and user access mechanisms
simple, through-the-web, customisation and extensibility
a large number of integration options

Zope runs on Win32, Linux, MacOS X, FreeBSD, and a number of other platforms.

OS-ELN is built using Zope's Content Management Framework, which gives a solid framework for managing users and their individual work areas. This makes using OS-ELN in a lab environment very convenient.

Zope itself is written in Python, an Object Oriented scripting language which is simple, flexible, and very powerful.
