It is based on Open Source technologies, which removes any license concerns, as well as ensuring wide availability of the tools and skills required to use it. OS-ELN is based on the Zope application server, which provides:
Zope runs on Win32, Linux, MacOS X, FreeBSD, and a number of other platforms. OS-ELN is built using Zope's Content Management Framework, which gives a solid framework for managing users and their individual work areas.
